Look around at any group of children starting their first year of school: according to the Future of Jobs Report from the World Economic Forum (www.weforum.org), as many as 65% of these children will end up in jobs that don’t exist yet.
The 4th Industrial Revolution is already here: technology and technological developments are increasingly becoming an integral part of our lives. The rate of change and the disruptive influences of new technology are creating a world that is rapidly becoming massively different on virtually all fronts, especially the world of work.
According to the World Economic Forum, Life Long Learning is one of the best ways to meet this challenge.
So what exactly is life long learning and how do we do it?
When we think about learning something new, we usually focus on the “what” or the content rather than the “how” or the learning skills involved. Focusing on learning how to learn builds and embeds learning skills so we can apply the most appropriate way of learning depending on what needs to be learned. For instance, rote learning or memorising is not the best way to learn highly conceptual subjects such as maths or science.
